Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails face off against a powerful new foe, Shadow, a mysterious villain with greater power than ever before. With their powers surpassed, Sonic’s team must forge an unlikely alliance. The filmmakers of the previous films cited Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (2001) and Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) as inspiration. The film was also inspired by narrative elements from the Saturday morning animated television series Sonic the Hedgehog (1993). In the television series Knuckles, Sonic said, “Robotnik is gone, and there is no new battle to fight.” But in this film, he told Tails and Knuckles to ask Dr. Robotnik to help them defeat Shadow The Hedgehog. Because of this, it is unknown how they knew he was still alive. Shadow’s story began the same way as yours, Sonic. But where you found family and friends, Shadow found only pain and loss.
