Defying his training and ethics, he makes a huge impact on people’s lives, including his own. and when asked by Bill Lawrence how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford type” and would be casting people who looked like Ford.
Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role
Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch the project to Ford, figuring he would immediately turn it down, but at least other people would hear that Harrison Ford had been pitched, generating interest from other notable actors. I watched the first two episodes and found them fascinating. One reason is that I found there is something real about a therapist who needs therapy and wants to reach out to his patients to solve their problems unexpectedly.
The show isn’t for everyone
I also respect the way this is presented – he doesn’t do what other therapists are supposed to do, and that’s pretty clear. He hasn’t gotten into the stupid situations in other shows like Loot, but he’s still early in the show and I’m still watching him.
