Remake of the film The Mouse Agent (2020)
Chronology
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers a private investigator’s call and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation of a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says, “The Mole Agent”; a documentary is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar, regardless of age, ethnicity, or gender, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way: “I need to call my mom.” In our show, we tried to strike a similar tone: Basically, does our show promote the feeling of wanting to call our moms? Ted Danson, about 76, plays Charles, about 76, a retired engineering professor living in San Francisco. He is also the producer of this series, which stands out from most by avoiding the all-too-common foul language.
This is actually very clean and pleasant
In the story, his wife had died maybe a year ago from the effects of Alzheimer’s. He is healthy, but perhaps bored with his daily routine. He has a habit of reading magazines and newspapers, and he often cuts out an interesting publication to send to his married daughter in Sacramento. One day, through the cut-out hole, he sees a small, short advertisement.
wants the thief caught
They are looking for a person between the ages of 75 and 85 for a specific job. This leads him to a private investigator hired by a man whose mother is in a kind of upscale nursing home in San Francisco. Significant jewelry was stolen and the boy was kidnapped. Charles is the key.
My wife and I enjoyed it on stream
So he is hired to check in on the scene and observe and report as the person who will reveal what is happening. Ted Danson is perfect in this role, where he delivers a lot of humor. It quickly becomes less about who the thief was and more about relationships. The characters are played by a great cast, many of whom are old favorites that we’ve come to know over the past 50 years or so.
The ending sets up for a sequel, hopefully they’ve watched
After watching the first three episodes in one evening, we watched the last five episodes in one sitting after our usual Saturday night steak and wine dinner.
